Looking for a life-changing experience? Look no further than an internship with Tijuana Christian Mission! Below you will find the answers to our most frequently asked questions about internships. If you don’t find the answers to your questions, or if you need more information, feel free to contact us by email, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR BEING AN INTERN?
We expect all of our interns to be Godly people with a heart for children and a willingness to serve. We do not require our interns to have any specific training, but if you have experience in child care or construction, speak both Spanish and English, or can drive a 15-passenger van, you will be invaluable to us. Whatever skills you have, you can be an asset to us, but the most important thing is FLEXIBILITY. Our lifestyle is very flexible here, and you may have to do a lot of bending and adjusting to keep up with us.
WHAT KINDS OF JOBS WOULD I BE EXPECTED TO DO AS AN INTERN?
During the summer months (May through August), our biggest need is good reliable drivers that can pick up mission groups at the airport and drive them to our home and each of their worksites during their visit with us. (We require all drivers to be at least 21 years old and to have a valid driver’s license.) If you are under 21, or if you plan to come during a less busy time, you will probably be asked to stay at our Rosarito campus and help care for the children.
In the past, interns have helped us with driving, hosting groups, translating, child care, cooking, cleaning, office work, web design, English classes, construction projects, and any number of special projects that came up during their internships. Basically, we want you to be ready, willing, and able to do whatever is asked of you in supporting the work of Tijuana Christian Mission.
CAN I GET COLLEGE CREDIT FOR MY INTERNSHIP?
Yes! You would have to work out the details in advance with the teachers or faculty of your school, but we have had many interns earn college credit for their work with us. However, please be sure you know exactly what requirements you will have to meet during your internship, and make us aware of these requirements in advance so that we can plan to accomodate your requests. We will gladly fill out any forms required by your school, or communicate with faculty members in order to help you meet the requirements of your internship.
WHEN CAN I COME, AND HOW LONG CAN I STAY?
Interns are welcome to come at anytime. Our greatest need is always during the summer months, but our doors are always open. The length of your trip is also entirely up to you. While some interns decide to stay with us for an entire summer, others stay for a month, or just for a couple weeks. Whatever your availability, we can probably accomodate your request.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME TO BE AN INTERN?
At this time, we do not have any specific costs or fees for interns. We simply ask that you make a donation to the ministry to help us cover the cost of your food and living expenses during your stay with us.
You will definitely want to bring some spending money with you, too. Whether you plan to go souvenir shopping, or just buy yourself an occasional snack or drink, you’ll also need to be prepared to purchase personal items. Be sure to plan ahead.
HOW DO I SIGN UP TO BE AN INTERN?
Simply complete the internship form. We will then review it and contact you for next steps. At that time, we can set up your trip dates and discuss any other questions you might have.
